I keep running into the same issues…
I love the flexibility of Firefox and its still miles ahead of the competition amongst OS X browsers. But somehow everytime you want to do something extra, really try to make FF work, it crashes on you - be it playing videos on YouTube, browsing a flash based website or anything even remotely interesting, FF makes browsing a nightmare.
Oh the horrors of 1GB memory usage!

Opening up tabs is a sllllllloooooooowwwwwwww, browsing the web is sllllllloooooooowwwwwwww, and the memory usage goes through the roof.
Then, a month or so ago I made the switch to Opera! And Voila - browsing is a breeze again!!
Yes, its not as extensible as Firefox - but it’s fast! The memory usage is similar but Opera never feels sluggish, has better support for international and special characters and has no issues with flash or RIA content.
Give it a whirl, you might be pleasantly surprised!
